Pleas of guilty

Note: Complex pleas, specifically identified in advance of work to be performed will require additional preparation and work. This will be reflected in costing.

Advice services regarding pleas of guilty in the Local Court

It may not be cost effective for your clients, or necessary, for counsel to appear in Local Court pleas of guilty unless some aspect of the plea involves complex issues or otherwise requires the services of a specialist advocate. Accordingly, if it is considered by my instructing solicitors to be of assistance, the following written advice service is available on request:

Trial costing

Advocacy services in trial are costed at $7500.00 per week, plus GST ($1500.00 per day, plus GST).

Accordingly and by way of an approximate costing indication, a two week trial would be costed at $22,500.00 plus GST (allowing for one week preparation and two weeks in trial). Trial work will not be accepted in the absence of adequate preparation time.

Long trial provisions

After three weeks in trial, fees are charged at $1250 per day, plus GST (or $6250.00 per week, plus GST).

Provisions regarding conferences

All conferences are to be held at my chambers, except by special arrangement arising from unusual circumstances, as agreed - such as the client having a significant disability or illness.

Prison conferences

Prison conferences are held each week on Sunday mornings. Prison conferences are charged at $500.00 plus GST in the Sydney metropolitan area.

Costing of work outside Sydney or interstate

Costing of work outside the Sydney metropolitan area or interstate will be specifically identified in written costs agreements. I will be pleased to advise interstate solicitors over the telephone of costing, on inquiry, subsequently formalising same in a written costs agreement if a decision is made to retain my professional services.

PLEASE NOTE THAT MR WEBB DOES NOT TAKE INSTRUCTIONS ON A DIRECT ACCESS BASIS AND DOES NO DIRECT ACCESS WORK, AT ALL.

This means that Mr Webb does not act for a client except on the instructions of a solicitor. Accordingly, if you are not a solicitor but consider that Mr Webb may be able to serve you, Mr Webb can identify a solicitor or solicitors who may be able to assist you. However, it is important to note that the solicitor that a client chooses is entirely a matter for the client and that Mr Webb will be pleased to work with any solicitor of the client's choosing.
